Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of light

About me

I am a fully qualified counsellor and hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (by the Skills & Education Group Awards) and a further Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Adolescents (by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body). I currently work remotely in private practice, offer home-visits and work in-person in secondary schools in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). The ethical framework of the BACP underpins my practice and all my professional interactions with clients, colleagues and trainers. Remaining up to date with counselling and psychotherapy research and new learnings is important to me. Since qualifying I have attended regular training courses, events and workshops to adhere to the requirements of the BACP and to keep my practice fair, ethical and safe and my interactions with clients professional, informed, sincere and empathic.

I am a qualified yoga teacher and hold a teaching certificate in Vinyasa yoga; I like to integrate breathing exercises, body scans and mindfulness into my practice to enable clients to get to know themselves on a more concious level, if they are happy to do so. In my previous career in Marketing, I learnt to pay attention and apply detail to what my clients needed and listened carefully to meet their requirements. I always enjoyed interacting with other people which eventually led me to become a therapist.

As a counsellor I work in a person-centred or humanistic way. I value each person’s individuality and honour each client’s personal experiences. Every client is unique and collaboratively we work with the issues and concerns they choose to talk about. It is the client who decides on what to bring, at what depth they want to explore their issues and at what pace they would like to work at. It is the client who leads the session because, in the words of Carl R Rogers, the pioneer in Person-Centred Counselling, ‘it is the client who knows what hurts’.

I have worked with a variety of issues to date such as anxiety, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), autism, disability, anger, gender identity and sexual orientation, religion, belief and spirituality, managing relationships, clients in social care, managing self, self-confidence, loss and grief, parental separation, self-harm, suicidal ideation and intent, disordered eating, bullying and risk-taking behaviours.

My work is inclusive and I welcome clients from a variety of different backgrounds, age, religions, faiths or spiritual beliefs, genders, sexual orientations, abilities or race.
